1. Consultation
hair loss pattern, scalp condition, skin tone, and desired outcome are assessed before any planning begins
Not every solution to hair loss has to involve surgery. For a lot of people whether they're not eligible for a transplant, not interested in one, or simply want something faster, Scalp Micropigmentation is a genuinely compelling option. SMP is a non-surgical procedure where tiny dots of cosmetic-grade ink are deposited on the scalp using microneedles, replicating the appearance of real hair follicles. Done well, it creates the look of a full shaved head or noticeably denser hair whichever the patient is going for. No cuts, no stitches, no recovery period. Results show up immediately. At DMC Trichology, SMP is available at Vasant Vihar (South Delhi) and Rajouri Garden (West Delhi). Results last 4–5 years before a touch-up is needed.
People with active smoking, alcohol, or drug dependency may experience reduced healing and less predictable treatment results.

in the weeks before, sun exposure and harsh topicals are avoided; scalp is moisturised for 21 days and alcohol avoided 48 hours prior
local anaesthesia is applied to the treatment area before the session starts
medical-grade ink is colour-matched to your existing natural hair
microneedles deposit individual ink dots at varying angles, sizes, and depths based on head shape, facial structure, and age
typically 3–4 sessions in total, spaced at least 2 weeks apart to gradually build the right pigment depth
scalp stays dry for a few days post-session; saunas, pools, high-impact exercise, and sun exposure are avoided for around a month
This comes up often and it's worth addressing directly. SMP is not a tattoo even though it involves needles and ink.
Regular tattoos use oil-based ink deposited deep in the skin. On the scalp, that ages badly the colour shifts to blue or green over time and the dots spread, losing definition. SMP uses distilled water-based pigments applied in the surface skin layers only. The result stays natural-looking and colour-accurate for years.
Each dot is placed individually at a precise angle that mimics a real hair follicle. Sessions run up to 5 hours depending on the treatment area.
Most patients need 3–4 sessions, with a minimum of 2 weeks between each. After that, touch-ups every 4–5 years keep results looking sharp.
Discomfort is minimal. Local anaesthesia handles most of it. Any soreness after a session is easily managed with standard painkillers.
The ink, the depth, and the result are all different. SMP uses water-based pigments in surface skin layers, matched to hair colour it looks natural and holds its colour. Regular tattoo ink goes deeper and fades badly on the scalp, often turning blue or green over time.
Long-lasting, not permanent. The pigment holds well for 4 years or more before a touch-up becomes worthwhile. Fading is gradual and manageable.
